Description:  Chicago Central ran their trains at a pretty good clip for a regional that had taken over a hand me down unwanted division of a Class 1. Dont recall the speed here, but I do remember having to hustle to catch these guys. I was on US 20 near Winthrop following this 50 car eastbound. I think it was train 30.

Description:  A Chicago Central train passes grain bins at Jesup(thanks to Dylan for the correction. I had it as Winthrop). The reason for the railroads existence is plain here in Iowa. Every town has one of these, some of them quite large.

Description:  Living in an urban environment with a lot of high density rail lines, I was used to seeing steel bridges. Thus, I was intrigued to see as many wood pile trestles as there were on this line. Heres a CC eastbound crossong one of them near Jesup IA.

Description:  After viewing this locomotive, there is no doubt of its Illinois Central heritage. Originally built by EMD in January of 1956 as IC GP9 9165, it went through the IC Paducah shops rebuild program and emerged as IC GP10 #8165. It was sold to the new Chicago Central & Pacific line as their CC #8165 but later renumbered CC #1775. This is a Paul F. DeLuca slide.

Description:  Once the train is clear of East Cabin, the engineer peels back the throttle to run 8 for the fast trip to Portage. The CC&P was responsible for the maintenance and dipatching of the double track between East Cabin and Portage and the BN had trackage rights. The BN experienced frequent delays by the CC&P and purchased the westbound track in 1992 and took over dispatching duties.
